About Austin
|
Situated in Central Texas and part of the American Southwest, Austin is Texas's capital and fourth largest city. It is the 16th largest in the nation as well as the 3rd fastest growing large city in the nation from 2000 to 2006. Austin continues to receive awards and accolades on a yearly basis and Money Magazine selected Austin as the #2 city in the nation for "Best Places to Live." Residents of Austin are also known as "Austinites," and include a wide variety of people and families. The city is home to enough large technology corporations to have earned it the nickname "Silicon Hills." Due to the large amounts of music venues and musicians, Austin's official slogan promotes the city as "The Live Music Capital of the World." We actually have more live music venues per capita than any other city in the U.S. The unofficial slogan of course would be "Keep Austin Weird," which refers to the campaign of preserving smaller local businesses and the resistance of excessive commercialization. While I have only highlighted a few of the elements that make Austin such an amazing place to live, feel free to visit the other links on the page to learn much more about our city and why it's the best place in the world to live!
